Expo for furry friends

PET owners in Cardinia are invited to bring their furry friends along to the shire’s annual pet expo next month.
Cardinia Shire’s local laws manager Alan Giachin said there would be stalls, displays and products for all kinds of pets as well as face painting, activities, discounts and giveaways.
“On the day, pet owners will also be given the opportunity to have their pets permanently identified with a microchip for a heavily discounted fee of $20 per animal,” Mr Giachin said.
“As part of this quick procedure, a microchip is placed under your pet’s skin. In the event that your pet becomes lost, council or shelter staff anywhere in Australia can scan this chip, identify your pet and notify you.”
Mr Giachin said council’s local laws officers would also be taking registrations of dogs and cats at the expo.
“All dogs and cats over the age of three months must be registered with the council each year, with registrations due for renewal on 10 April each year.
“This means that if your pet is lost, you will have a greater chance of being reunited with it.”
Registration forms can be obtained from the Local Laws Department by phoning 1300 787 624 or by logging on to council’s website at www.cardinia.vic.gov.au
The Pet Expo will be held at the Cardinia Shire Office, Henty Way, Pakenham, on Saturday, April 1, from 10am to 2pm. Entry is free.
Dogs and cats must be on leads or in cages.
