BAW Baw Hockey Club lost some close games last week but had two big wins in lower grades.
MEN’S STATE LEAGUE 4
The Bulls met Old Xaverians for a closely fought battle between teams in third and fourth place. In a lowscoring game, the Bulls were unlucky but could not begrudge Xaverians their goal from a well executed flick to the top lefthand corner of the net.
At one stage, Xaverians had two players behind the goal after earning themselves yellow cards, but the Bulls failed to take advantage of this opportunity. Although Baw Baw had several shots on goal during the game, luck was not falling their way and goals eluded them. The Bulls managed to hold third position.

WOMEN’S STATE LEAGUE 4
The Baw Baw women faced an immense challenge in regaining a position in the four after a loss to SNP in an actionpacked game on Saturday. In a physically and verbally imposing game, the team was a goal down in the early stages of and Chris Sewell, in defence, was disabled by a blow to her leg and was unable to play further. The lights failed shortly after this and SNP in the semidarkness scored a disallowed goal. The game was halted for 10 minutes.
In a seesawing game SNP attracted yellow cards for deliberate pushing and green cards for constantly arguing decisions. With five minutes to go, Baw Baw levelled the scores, but only to have their hopes dashed by an SNP goal from a penalty corner.

MEN’S PENNANT E
The Bulls drew with Geelong the last time they played and narrowly lost a hardfought game with them, this time around.

MEN’S METRO 4 SOUTH
The Bulls thirds had an exciting game at Monash and managed to come away with the points.

UNDER 17 PENNANT A
Playing one short, the Bulls faced PowerhouseSt Kilda at Dandenong and showed the strength and teamwork that has gained them a place with the best of this grade. Rookie Sam Burton scored his second goal g a strong game. Cameron Hill was a tower of strength on the back line and Dave Hill notched up another two goals. The Bulls face a couple of tough games in the weeks remaining but enjoy a week’s break because of a bye.

GIRLS UNDER 17 SOUTH
The Bulls gave a great display of their skills and teamwork against TEM in round 14. Despite injuries and sickness taking their toll and playing several games short on numbers the players have demonstrated they are clear leaders.

UNDER 15 PENNANT A
The sixthplaced Baw Baw took on the fourthplaced Camberwell. In a game that had a bit of everything, both teams had excellent work rates. Camberwell took an early lead with a short corner conversion, followed shortly after by an excellent field goal by Baw Baw’s Nathan Kemp, his first of the season.
The halftime score was 11 and intensity from both teams lifted in the second half. The second Camberwell goal came from another short corner and Baw Baw equalised with a penalty stroke converted by Matt Goetz. The draw was a fitting end to a good game. Both teams have hard games ahead so the final four may not be clear until the final round. But the young Bulls can be assured of staying in this grade next year.

The side in this round had a bye.
