Kangaroos hop into finals

THE Officer Kangaroos Junior Football Club had two teams in the finals after the last round of junior competition.

UNDER 14

Officer Kangaroos travelled to Glen Waverley to play Waverley Hawks in the last game of the season. The Kangaroos went in hard from the start and used excellent handball and teamwork to earn a big lead at halftime. In the second half the Kangaroos teamed well and in the last quarter went on a spree, managing seven goals to take second spot on the ladder. Scores: Officer Kangaroos 16.14.110 d Waverley Park 3.3.21. Goals: W. Comelli 6, K. Bowman 5, N. Adams 2, C. Caldwell, M. Cooper, M. Goddard 1.

UNDER 13

After a sluggish start against Hampton Park, the Kangaroos finally scored through a sensational snap by full back Nathan Fry. Hampton Park capitalised on the wind in the second quarter and kicked three goals to one and Officer would have been further behind if not for the good defensive work of Matt Rogers, Tim Hogben and Jesse Mathieson. The Kangaroos lifted their intensity and began combining better in the third quarter.
The side continued to attack in the last quarter and, although kicking into the breeze, outscored the opposition.
Scores: Officer Kangaroos 8.5.53 d Hampton Park 4.3.27.
Goals: Nathan Temby 3, Nathan Fry, Brad Gourley, Michael White, Mark Vandenacker, Cam Abbott 1.
Best: Matt Rogers, Nathan Fry, Nathan Temby, Tim Hogben, Brad Gourley, Blake Gilbert.
Awards: Nathan Temby, Nathan Fry, Tim Hogben, Brad Gourley, Jesse Mathieson, Rick Goldsack.

At home in wet and windy conditions Officer Kangaroos played with endeavour and enthusiasm but were no match for their bigger, stronger opponents.
Scores: Cranbourne 5.3.33 d Officer Kangaroos 1.0.6.
Goals: L. Caddy 1.
Best: P. Ross, C. Armstrong, S. Stegar, T. Adams.
Awards: Red Rooster, L. Jackson; Blockbuster, S. Stegar; McDonald’s, S. Cox and B. Price.

Scores: Officer Kangaroos 8.16.64 d Silverton 4.9.33. Goals: J. Johnson 4, J. Hicks 2, S. Armstrong, R. Little 1.
