Power clicks on under lights

UNDER lights at Bendigo last weekend Gippsland Power, after some worrying moments, opened its season’s account with a 23point victory against the Bendigo Pioneers. Gippsland had been fair in its first game against the Stingrays but pitiful against the Northern Knights, revealing doubts about its strength.
The return of Rob Eddy and Jeff Ryan gave everyone reason for optimism and it was obvious early that the Power was setting a fierce tempo.
Excellent pressure set up Rob Eddy for the first major but the Pioneers answered immediately. Tyson Goldsack set up Ricky Delphine for the second Power goal and then kicked one himself after excellent teamwork by Eddy, Ben Jostlear and Marc Truscio. Just when the Power seemed to have the momentum going their way, the Pioneers exploited some indecisive Power play and went to the first break with a twopoint lead.
The Power needed to regroup to stop the flood of goals and applied excellent pressure.
Goldsack opened the scoring before Jaymie Youle capped off fine work by Jeff Ryan to extend their lead and seize the momentum from the Pioneers.
The Power was still off target but playing well and Truscio stood tall in a forest of Bendigo big men to mark and goal to give the Power a 14point lead at the long break. The Power kicked the first major of the term due to more magic from but the Pioneers were let back into the game after poor decisionmaking with the football. By the end of the term they were trailing by 11 points and looked to be out on their feet.
Truscio was the catalyst for the revival, setting up Goldsack for the first goal before scoring two himself. The Pioneers could not get forward and the Power went into top gear all over the ground. The finishing touches were some magic from Ben Ross and Lachlan Hansen and the Power recorded a moraleboosting 23point win.
The return of the hardtackling Tristan Francis after suspension will help the Power in its next clash with Calder Cannons.
