Flowers fires at Garfield

GLENN Flowers shot a top 38 points in the Stableford event to win A grade in the annual tournament at Garfield Golf Club last Monday week.
On a handicap of eight, he won on a countback from Barry Cunningham.
Next best in A grade was Gerry Tymensen with 36.
Bgrade winner was Rick Fenby with 38 points also on a countback from Peter Browne. Peter however did win the special seniors’ trophy for his efforts.

TUESDAY RESULTS

On Anzac Day, the club hosted the annual and popular mixed Canadian sponsored by Harvey Norman, Warragul.
There were 70 pairs in the field and the Agrade scratch winners were the Garfield pairing of T. and K. Garratt.
The Agrade handicap winners were M. and M. Jackson with 71 1/2 nett. Runners up were Danny Gorman and Leanne Planck on 74 3/8. Bgrade scratch winners were L. and L. Nicholson with 85.
Russell and Joanne Seadon won the Bgrade handicap with 72 5/8 from runnersup Charlie Hardy and Jennie Harris 75 3/8.

WEDNESDAY RESULTS

Normal competition resumed on Wednesday with 81 players in the field for the Stableford competition.
Rob Piner (eight) had solid 39 points to win A grade from Glenn Flowers 38. Geoff Hewson, Paul Milner and Peter Devries all had 37.
Mick Roberts (18) visiting from Warragul won B grade with 40 points on a countback from Brad Hammill. Rob Woodward was next on 39.
In C grade, Danny Gorman (25) had the day’s highest score to record a win with 44 points from runnerup Ross Lang 41. Scott Dumas was next on 40.
Nearest to pins – second: Rob Woodward, 14th: Brad Hamill. Balls went down to 37 points.

SATURDAY RESULTS

There were 124 players who took to the course for the Par event and there plenty of cheers when Rex Amey holed out on the 14th.
Dean Robbins (12) blitzed the course to win A grade with +6.
Darryl Bryce was runnerup with +3 on a countback from Barry Cunningham.
Lloyd Mareska (20) won B grade also with +6.
The Robbins family obviously enjoyed their day with Eric coming in with +5 to take the runnersup voucher. Steve Barr, Neil Williams, Les Madden, Peter Daniel and Geoff Closter all returned with +3.
In C grade, Wayne English (25) had a win with +4.
Runnerup was John Gardiner +2 on a countback from Brent Wilson.
Nearest to pins – second: Rex Amey, 5th: Russell Seadon, 14th: Rex Amey, 17th (pro pin): Alan Bright.
Balls went down to +2 and the CCR was 71.

COMING EVENTS

This Saturday is the May monthly medal and the first round of the club championships.

LADIES

There was no competition for Drouin women golfers last Tuesday, due to the Drouin tournament that was well attended.
The ladies fourballbestball event on Friday was cancelled because of the adverse weather, but this will be rescheduled to a later date.

PENNANT

Divisionone pennant team lost to Trafalgar 4/3. Divisiontwo had a win, defeating Pakenham 5/2, and divisionthree lost to Churchill/Monash 3/2.

THURSDAY SENIORS

In perfect golfing weather, the ninehole seniors competition was again well attended and the monthly barbecue was enjoyed after the game. Thanks go to the cooks, and to the ladies who supplied the salads.
The winner was Judy Bibby with 23 points and the runnersup were Ann Roberts, Jill Brenchley and Kay Grieve, all on 21 points and Robyn O’Brien on 20 points.

This week is Stableford and next week (9 May) will be the monthly medal, second round of the John Arnold Memorial Trophy and the second round of the silver spoon.
