IT was a double at Drouin Golf Club on Saturday with Rick Fenby adding another monthly medal to his collection and Danny Shine leading after round one of the club championships.
There were 124 players in the field for the monthly medal, with Rick Fenby (26) shooting 68 nett and also losing a couple of shots off his handicap.
Rick also won the Cgrade division from runnerup Wayne English, 70.
In B grade, Ron Harris (18) with 71 was one clear of Zed Weiclaw, followed by Stuart William, Paul Duivenvoorden and Eric Robbins all on 73.
Peter Downward (eight) started off his championship campaign with a win in A grade with nett 70 on a countback from Steve Cordell. Danny Shine was next on 72 followed by Brad Bennett, Phil Adams, Ryan Radford and Shane Dwyer, all on 73.
Downtheline balls went to 73 and the CCR was also 73.
Nearest to pins – second: Eric Robbins, fifth: Peter Devries, 19th: John Denholm and 23rd (pro pin): Danny Shine.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS
The scratch winner and leader after round one is Danny Shine with 76.
Ryan Radford, Shane Dwyer and Peter Downward are all two shots adrift.
In B grade, Eric Robbins leads the way after his round of 86 off the stick, followed by Stuart Williams 88, Jeff Richardson 89 and Ron Harris 89.
Cgrade leader is Stuart Low on 93, just one clear of Rick Fenby 94.
The match committee has also introduced a seniors’ championship (age 55plus) this year and the leading player so far is Peter Downward with 78.
WEDNESDAY RESULTS
Poor weather contributed to the small field of 73 players and scores were at the lower end of the scale, resulting in a CCR of 74.
Cleo Sahhar (13) won A grade with 37 points on a countback from Peter Devries. John Harris and Shane Dwyer were next on 34.
Alan Wilson (18) won B grade with 36 from Jack Gough 35, John Wolswinkel 34 and John Kelly 33.
Mick Hanley (23) won C grade with 34 on a countback from George Nicholson. John Gidley and Phil Edwards both returned with 32.
Propin on the 23rd was won by Brad Bennett.
Downtheline balls went to 32 points.
MONDAY RESULTS
There was a good field of 27 players for the ninehole competition and Rhys Palmer and Ross Lang tied with 21 points each.
George Connor and Mick Devries were next on 20.
THURSDAY RESULTS
Jim McCormack had a win with 21 points and Zed Weiclaw was runnerup with 18.
Olive Reid and Betty Johnson were the best of the ladies with 16 points each.
COMING EVENTS
The club championships continue this Saturday with another Stroke round.
There are plenty of contenders in each grade and there is also a handicap section in each grade.

LADIES
Last Tuesday’s event was Stableford, played on the Matthew Bennett course. The CCR was 34.
Agrade winner was Julie Robertson with 39 points and the runnerup with 35 points was Lorna Hoskins.
Bgrade winner was Olive Reid with 36 points and the runnerup was Joyce Pierrehumbert with 34 points.
Joyce also had the nearest the pin on the fifth.
There was no claim on the 19th or the propin.
Downtheline balls went to Margaret Purcell, Betty Johnson, Fay Bastin and Shirley Todd.
Seven members travelled to Wonthaggi to play in the WGV Country Tournament last Tuesday and Wednesday and despite the cold and windy conditions, did well.
Glenda Warren scooped the pool in division three by winning the gross score for 36 holes, also the day event gross and nett on Wednesday and with Di Sullivan and Irene Morgan won the teams event.
Di Sullivan tied with three others in a playoff for the scratch overall for the two days and was runnerup on a countback and also won the handicap event on Wednesday.
The Thursday nine hole senior’s competition was won by joint winners – Betty Johnson and Olive Reid, both on 16 points.
This week is stroke, the monthly medal, second round John Arnold Memorial trophy and second round of the silver spoon.
Next week, 16 May will be the Doris Chambers qualifying round, foursomes Stableford.
