Mick tops the tee

MICK McManus still leads the Pakenham Golf Club men’s 2006 championships after the second round on Saturday.
With rounds of 73 and 75 Mick, off scratch, leads by six shots with the third and deciding round to be played next Saturday.
Other leaders are Paul Hobson (B grade), Doug Law (C grade) and in D grade Marc Merigan leads by four shots, while Tym Davey leads in the juniors.
In the veterans (over 55) Doug Law and Stan Gilbert are tied on 179 with Rod Cameron one stroke behind.
The winner of the day competition was Mark Hatton with 69, with Cass Bannister coming in with 70 to win B grade, while Robert Morley won C grade with 71. The CCR was 72.

Nearest the pin on the golf shop second hole went to Ken McIntyre and Geoff Percival won the Pakenham Subway hole.
The Dante’s Woodfired Pizza eighth hole went to John Goodchild and the Hungry Jack’s 14th by Wayne Hood.
Andrew Villinger took out the Pakenham Pizza 16th hole and Paul Hobson won the B.M.R.
Autos second shot on the 16th. The B.M.R. Autos longest drive in A grade went to Peter Blackwell and Cass Bannister won B grade.
Tom McDermott won the McIntyre Painting longest drive in C grade.
The lucky raffle winners were Wayne Caffyn and George Savkov.

DEATH OF SYD COOPER

The club and members are mourning the recent death of Syd Cooper.
He was a member of the club for many years and played regularly until the past few months.

MEN’S PENNANT

After the washout on 7 May, the pennant draw will alter to enable this round to be played.
Some teams were able to play the round on Mother’s Day and others will complete the round on the Queen’s Birthday weekend.
If either of these alternatives is not suitable, a double header will be scheduled at a suitable time.
Members are asked to check with their team captain for further details.

SAVE ON MEMBERSHIP

Any member who introduces a new adult member will receive 20 per cent off their membership renewal.
This is a great way to reduce fees.

WEDNESDAY RESULTS

The highlight was a hole in one by Joseph Brennan.
He hit a great shot on the parthree second and with just one bounce it dropped into the hole.
John Kingman was the winner with 38 points from Stuart Hare 37 and Ray Wilson 37.
Down the lines went to Stan Gilbert 36, Noel Bonne 35, Patrick Duane 34, Bert Burniston 34 and Harri Capobus 34.
Nearest the pin on the second went to Joseph Brennan with Steve Chapman taking out the eighth and Stan Gilbert the 14th.

LADIES

The ladies played Stableford for the Pakenham Caravan Park Day. There was no rain but the wind was chilly and it was damp and heavy underfoot.
Twentyone teams competed for the Pakenham Bowl last Friday.
Liz Garvey was thanked for sponsorship of the Stableford round for Pakenham Caravan Park Day.
The winner was Libby De Hey with 35 points. The divisiontwo winner was Faye Barnes with 32 points and the divisionthree winner was Toni Owen with 32 points.
Nearest the pin on the second hole went to Jenny Bayard and the eighth to Shirley Roberts. Libby De Hey was the winner on the 16th hole.
Downtheline balls were won by Marg Jackson 32, June McCardel 31, Lyn Murray 31, Shirley Roberts 30, Marjorie Dean 30, Kay Jones 29 and Leonie Sander 29 on a countback.

MEDAL OF MEDALLIST

A special presentation of a badge was made to Shirley Roberts on her achievement of Medal of Medallist for 2005.
In future all Medal of Medallist winners will receive one of these badges. There is a special honourboard in the clubhouse with all Medal of Medallist names recorded.

COMING EVENTS

Next week is the start of the ladies championships.
These will be held over three weeks – 18 and 25 May plus 1 June.

LADIES BOWL

On Friday, 12 May the Pakenham ladies held their ladies bowl.
The bowl was originally donated by Marg Blake and it is contested for by many clubs, with the winner holding it for 12 months.
The 2006 winner was Devil Bend with 88 points. Team members were A. Shepherd 29, L Norton 28, and B Marshall 31.
The Silver Division (026 handicap) saw Cath Little from Morwell the winner with 35 points and the Bronze Division winner (2736 handicap) was Marjorie Dean from Pakenham with 35 points.
Marg Blake, who sponsored the division prizes, was thanked.
Nearest the pin went to Jo Leslie from Churchill/Monash (second hole), I. Morgan from Drouin (eighth hole) and Cath Little from Morwell (14th hole).
