Young cattle quality and price feature at VLE

FOR the week ending Monday, 15 August, total yarding at the VLE Pakenham was 1961 plus bobby calves.
This number consisted of 625 cattle on the Monday, 433 on Tuesday of last week and 903 at Thursday’s store sale.
Both quality and price was a feature of the young cattle sale at Pakenham.
Excellent quality supplementary fed yearlings supplied a large percentage of the best trade weight cattle but it was a single vealer steer weighing 420 kilogram that set a new state record of 264.4 cents per kilogram.
All of the better quality vealers and yearlings made between 235 cents and 264.4 cents, but some of the bigger increases were seen for heavy yearlings and older cattle.
While trade cattle were up to six cents per kilogram dearer, others improved by up to 15 cents per kilogram.
This saw bullocks make up to 192.6 cents, but several sales of heavy yearlings weighing up to 530 kilogram were up to 240 cents per kilogram.
