Injuries take shine off Stars

GARFIELD Netball Club’s Agrade team, unbalanced by injuries, went down to a strong Leongatha team by 11 goals on Sunday.
With some players out of their normal positions, the Stars still provided a skilled contest.
Melissa Hill rebounded well and shot some spectacular goals. A hardworking attack end fought valiantly to feed the goalers and Bess Henry ran and present herself for passes continually.
Lisa Biffen and Jade Dawes demonstrated strong defensive skills and were supported by Jo Collis in wing defence.

B GRADE

Garfield came from behind in the last quarter to win a close, tough and hardfought match.
Victory came through hard work and discipline and this was evident by the team’s midcourt work ethic.
Jackie Collis played a skilful game and provided leadership and drive in the attacking end.
Heath Mills lifted to play a brilliant last quarter, while Emma Marsh dominated the wing position.

C GRADE

In a close game Sammy Barr was brilliant in defence, continually creating turnovers.
Danae Jolly played well in wing attack and overcame a tough defender to dominate the position, while Sally Harper, coming into the game after an illness, also played well.

17 AND UNDER

Despite Garfield’s hard efforts and some excellent passages of play, Leongatha was too strong.
Kelly McMillan played a strong defensive game, Casey Dawes displayed fine skills and Josie Johnston played a brilliant game in wing defence.

15 AND UNDER

Garfield got off to a good start and settled into a steady game up until the halftime break, but then Leongatha’s strength enabled it to win.
Jesse Scamporlino played the centre position well, while Katie O’Dea played a strong game in wing attack.
Kassie Burge created many turnovers in defence and Kaila Lang settled well in the goaling position.

13 AND UNDER

Garfield tried hard all day, but was outclassed by a much taller side.
Ruby Collis and Lucy Wheeler played well in defence despite the score, Emma Masal ran all game and Tamara Monson gave drive and speed in the centre, while Meg Bogart gave some great passes down the court.
