EMERALD travelled to Thornton to play ThorntonEildon in arctic conditions. Emerald found it difficult to field two sides as the distance took its toll on people prepared to travel that far, however with the help of several under18 players and people playing two full games the Bombers managed to prevent a forfeit.
In the first quarter the home team managed 10 goals and left Emerald goalless.
In the second quarter a rejuvenated Emerald side kept up with ThorntonEildon and, except for a couple of late goals, the quarter was even.
In the third and fourth quarters ThorntonEildon took control and the tired legs of players who played two games started to tell.
Scores: ThorntonEildon 34.17.221 d Emerald 7.5.47.
Goals: Clinton Marsh 5, Kyal Woolnough, Jon Lanyon 1.
Best: Kyal Woolnough, Jamie Marshall, David Hill, Mark Alenson.

RESERVES

Another undermanned Emerald side took the field against ThorntonEildon. Everyone thought this was going to be a onesided affair as only 10 players were available to play 40 minutes before the game. But, with the assistance of the under 18s and players volunteering to play an extra game, the match became quite competitive.
Thornton outscored Emerald for the first three quarters and was seven goals up. Emerald gave its all in the last quarter and inspired all who were there with the guts and determination to do their best and win the last quarter, outscoring ThorntonEildon and making a respectable total by the end.
Scores: ThorntonEildon 15.14.104 d Emerald 10.7.67.
Goals: Clinton Marsh 8, Ben Williams 2.
Best: Ryan Appleby, Andrew Rolfs, Brett Pooles, Brett Bazley.
