ARTEFACTS and artwork on loan from the Koori Heritage Trust will be on display at the Casey Civic Centre until Friday, 16 June.
The display is part of Reconciliation Week celebrations.
Casey mayor Kevin Bradford said the items on display would enable residents to appreciate the types of tools used by the Bunurong and Wurundjeri people, and more recent artworks created by Aboriginal artists. He said Reconciliation Week was a time to remind all Australians of the importance of recognising and acknowledging national history and the traditional owners of the land.
“This understanding is reiterated in the council’s Statement of Acknowledgement, which is read at the start of every council meeting and any public meetings on council land,” he said.
Other events include an afternoon tea for Reconciliation Week with elders and service providers of the indigenous community.
There will also be a traditional welcome ceremony to the council meeting on Tuesday, 4 July.
During the Edwin Flack Games there will be a demonstration match of marn grook, an Aboriginal form of football.
Trains resume after vandalism disruption
