Young Brookers break through

GEMBROOKCockatoo won its first under16 match of the season, one of three junior victories for the round.

UNDER 16

GembrookCockatoo was chasing its first win against an opposition wanting the same result. There were two milestone games, Tom Price’s 150th and Brendan Power’s 50th, for the Brookers. It was a quick start with both sides sharing the ball around until some sensational teamwork with good ball control setting up team goals with Tyson Rattle, Simon Heathcote and Zeb Quigley taking control early. As the game continued the Brookers fired up and worked together.

UNDER 14

Against Olinda at home Gembrook made costly mistakes, giving Olinda easy access to the goals. The last quarter we needed to score the first goal to stay in touch, but failed against a taller, better marking side.

This week we came up against a very good side in Mt Evelyn. After a very even first half we allowed them to kick four unanswered goals late in the third quarter. To the teams credit they fought the game right out.

In a close contest against Mount Evelyn under perfect conditions there was a fast running game in the first quarter. Two evenly matched teams went hard for four quarters and never gave up, giving spectators from both sides a terrific spectacle.
