CELEBRATIONS are afoot for the Berwick Youth Choir with funds allocated to help the group stage its 20th anniversary concert.
City of Casey Council will give the choir a $2000 oneoff grant for the concert, to be held on 19 August.
Organisers had requested a contribution of $8800 from council.
At last Tuesday’s council meeting, Councillor Wayne Smith said it was important to note that the money was going towards professionals’ fees, and not those of the choir members.
“This is a good opportunity to help out a worthwhile cause,” Cr Smith said.
Performances from former and current choristers and an independent instrumental group are planned for the concert.
The choir is also trying to secure the services of former choir member Rejelio Paulo Shepherd, who is now studying at the National Opera School in London.
Council also decided to allocate $2800 to assist groups performing at the Casey’s citizenship ceremonies to help them offset the costs of their appearances.
