IT was a close finish in the Stableford event at Drouin Golf Club on Saturday, with Peter Downard taking the points with 38 on a countback from Rex Amey.
The round was contested by 88 players and despite the course being in great condition for this time of year, no player broke the 40point barrier.
Phil Dignan was next on 36 followed by Mark Wootton 35.
Scott Dumas (handicap 20) got over the line in B grade, also on a countback with 39 points from Stan Weller. Tom Flowers and Greg Smyth both returned with 38.
Laurie Pyle (21) won C grade with 36 from Josef Kawalko 35.

Balls went down to 35 and the CCR was 72.
WEDNESDAY RESULTS
The midweek Stableford competition was well supported with 82 players.
Graham Austin (12) blitzed A grade with 40 points.
Runnerup was the consistent Peter Downward, 36, followed by Jesse Youngman 35 and Tony Elliott 35.
Steve Henning (18) won B grade, also with 40 points.
Runnerup was Mike Mareska, 39 on a countback, from Charlie Hardy and Dick Lancaster.
Ian Hemphill (22) won C grade with 39 points from runnerup Rick Fenby 35.

Balls went down to 34 and the CCR was 73.
THURSDAY RESULTS
Ivan Moffatt won the men’s seniors with 20 points from Peter Browne, 18 and Les Madden 18.
Olive Reid won the ladies with 20 from Joyce Hadfield 19 and Helen Andreasen 17. This Saturday is the first round of the Stroud Trophy, fourballbestball Stableford.
LADIES
Last Tuesday’s event was a mixture, being stroke, the monthly medal, first round club championships, first round Edna Cropley Trophy and third round John Arnold Memorial Trophy. The CCR was 76.
The winner of the Silver Division and winner of the monthly medal was Margaret Purcell, with 72 nett. The runnerup was Mary Tymensen with 75 nett.
Bronzeone winner was Glenda Warren with 76 nett and the runnerup was Margaret Mitchem with 78 nett.
Bronzetwo winner was Poss Leeson with 77 nett and the runnerup was Robyn Eacott with 81 nett on a countback.
Nearest the pin on the 19th was Tracie English and on the fifth was Irene Morgan. The propin was won by Margaret Purcell.
Downtheline balls went to Lorna Hoskins with 76 nett, Shirley Todd 77 nett, Irene Morgan 77 nett and Karyn Milner 79 nett.
LADIES THURSDAY RESULTS
Clive Reid with 20 points won the ninehole seniors’ competition. Runnersup were Joyce Hadfield with 19 points and Helen Andreason with 17 points.
COMING EVENTS
This week is the second round club championships, second round Edna Cropley Trophy and fourth round of the Silver Spoon.
Next week will be the final rounds of the club championships and the Edna Cropley Trophy.
The West Gippsland senior ladies are reminded of the next event that will be held at Drouin on Friday, 16 June. The ladies fourballbestball Stableford event that was cancelled during the Drouin Tournament will now be held on Thursday, 10 August and new entries will be accepted.
