Beacy Supers outclassed

BEACONSFIELD’S thirddivision Superules side needed to win to keep in touch with the four last weekend, however Glenorden was too classy for the Beaconsfield outfit. The day did not start well with Beaconsfield’s main ruckman pulling out of the game only minutes before the match with knee soreness. This allowed newcomer Andy McLeish to come into the ruck.
Beaconsfield started slowly, allowing Glenorden to run the ball freely and loose checking by the Beaconsfield players allowed Glenorden to play on on most occasions. Veltemyer returned to the side and with Van den Berghe shared the ruck role for the first quarter.
Beaconsfield was winning the majority of ruck contests, however Glenorden read the play better and sharked the ball from the ruck duels, going into attack on numerous occasions. Gelorden had posted three goals before Beaconsfield managed to get the ball to Van den Berghe late in the quarter for Beaconsfield’s first goal.
There was a more determined effort by Beaconsfield in the second term. McLeish moved into the ruck and was getting first hands on the ball, but again Glenorden was better at the clearances. Andy Gubbins was having a good game in defence, taking saving marks, laying tackles and getting the ball forward while his brother Matthew was moved to centre halfforward to give Beaconsfield a marking target and two goals for the term. Mitchell, Valentine and former Gembrook player Mick Granieri were getting plenty of possessions, however Glenorden’s pressure led to costly turnovers.
Glenorden’s back line were standing firm, not allowing Beaconsfield’s forwards easy possessions and rebounding all forward thrusts. The only major for the term came from a good leftfoot snap by Matthew Gubbins.
In the final term Beaconsfield made further positional moves, Col Ross going forward as another marking option to help give Beaconsfield an edge in marking contests. The back line of Hill, Sherris, Payne, Lamont and Andy Gubbins were all doing a great job putting their bodies on the line. Glenorden’s pressure made Beaconsfield play wider than it would have liked, which made scoring opportunities harder. It took until the 10minute mark in the last quarter for Bell to get a goal and Matthew Gubbins goaled a few minutes latter. Beaconsfield kept Glenorden to three goals in the last quarter.
