Why the Stars ended up alone

AS A supporter and life member of the Pakenham Football Club I was very interested in the letter Marg Bogart from Garfield wrote to the Gazette about Garfield’s football and netball clubs.
The concerns voiced were the same that Pakenham had when Garfield and other WGFL clubs were trying to force Pakenham out of the WGFL and into the Latrobe League.
Fortunately we took fate into our own hands and decided where we would go and not be told where to go.
Thankfully the MPNFL welcomed Pakenham along with Beaconsfield and we have now settled into a strong league that lies in close proximity and where rivalries between clubs are coming into play.
I agree that local sport is not just about playing a game, it’s also about what’s happening off the field without having to travel 250km return to do so.
Maybe Garfield should have thought long and hard about the decision it made five years ago when the club decided it no longer wanted Pakenham and Beaconsfield in the WGFL and, maybe, the WGFL would still exist and Garfield wouldn’t be in the predicament they are in.
