FEW trotting meetings can boast of having run a race during a snowfall, but that happened at Warragul last Wednesday.
Snow began to fall as the runners reached the starting point for the second event and continued throughout the race.
Though the snow soon melted it was ordinary weather to say the least, however the hardy horses and their drivers ploughed on as normal.
Course photographer John Moore snapped Brother Mick scoring a narrow victory in the Arctic conditions and footage of the unique sporting event made that night’s national news bulletins.
Heavy rain, icy winds, the brief snow and singlefigure temperatures didn’t deter a hardy group of spectators from attending the meeting and seeing a good day’s racing.
Capping off a good day for local horsemen was the win of Kooweerup horse Farouk that took out the Warragul Horse of the Year award for his owners and trainer Terry Lamont.
It’s snow good!
