MEMBERS of the Rotary Club of Berwick gathered for the official presidency handover last Thursday night at Castellos Hotel in Berwick.
About 150 people attended the evening and listened to outgoing president Tim Moore talk about the club’s achievements of the last 12 months.
Mr Moore said the Rotoract Club and Farmers Market were among the major highlights. He also told the audience that the club had exceeded its membership goal and inducted 12 new members.
“A personal highlight for me has been the establishment of the RRR program, Reducing Rotund Rotarians, which was designed to encourage other members to privately visit their diet and fitness levels,” Mr Moore said.
New president Terry Carmichael was presented to guests and said he was honoured to be elected by his fellow Rotarians.
“The Rotary International theme this year is ‘Lead the Way’ and the emphasis will be on family, literacy and humanitarian efforts,” Mr Carmichael said.
He said the Rotary Club of Berwick will adopt these international themes and will also embark on several of its own projects.
“We are planning to build a hospital in Indonesia and we are talking about forming an environmental alliance with the City of Casey.”
Mr Carmichael said the club was always looking to find new members.
