Bullants bite Scorpions

THE misery continued for the second week for the Casey Scorpions that went down by 48 points to the Northern Bullants on Sunday afternoon at Preston.
The Scorpions were looking to retain a spot in the final eight and bounce back to inflict the second loss of the season on the ladderleading Bullants.
However, in the first three minutes, it was the Bullants who had two goals on the board. The Scorpions struggled to make an impact as the Bullants, seeking revenge for their only defeat so far this season, marched to a 31point lead at the first change.
In the second quarter, the Scorpions needed to make quick inroads into the Bullants’ lead. A mark and goal to Justin Sweeney helped open the Scorpion account and goals to Rigg and Scalzo followed.
Although the Scorpions won the quarter 4.4 to 4.2, the Bullants still held a good grip on the game, leading by 29 points at halftime. A matchending injury to Raphael Clarke was a real downer for the Scorpions.
The third quarter hoped to provide the Scorpion faithful with something to cheer about, but this didn’t happen. The Bullants, through the Carlton connection of Digby Morrell and Ian Prendergast, began to dominate around the ground and marks and goals to each helped nail the Scorpions. The Bullants effectively sealed the match with a 5.3 to 0.2 quarter to lead by 60 points at the last change. A goal to Hobbs started the last quarter well for the Scorpions and although they showed some fight, winning it 3.2 to 1.2, it was a far more committed Northern Bullants who continued to march on, running out 48point winners. The loss resulted in the Scorpions dropping out of the eight.
