CASEY children are in safe hands with community leaders launching the SafeStart injury protection program at Narre Warren on Monday.
The program has been designed in response to the high level of child injuries being reported at local doctors and Casey Hospital.
Experts from the Royal Children’s Hospital and the Monash Accident Research Centre jointly talked about the different aims and solutions of the initiative.
Nearly 40 per cent of all patients attending the emergency department of the hospital are children and Casey officials hope the SafeStart program will reduce this figure. Parents were also made aware of the highrisk areas for children around the home and were offered solutions to minimise potential injuries.
Jennie Lee, director of community services at Casey Council addressed parents about SafeStart and its many objectives. The program aims to work with the local government and sections of the community to raise awareness of just how vulnerable young children can be. Several Casey children accepted awards for their creative safety ideas at the launch and students from Berwick Lodge Primary School produced an entertaining show for the crowd.
