Liquor bandit wields knife

Callan Date
A KNIFE wielding bandit terrified staff as he heldup Safeway Liquor in Pakenham last Friday night.
The man, aged in his mid20s, entered the John Street store around 8.45pm and selected a bottle of alcohol from the shelf. He approached the counter and asked for a packet of cigarettes.
The man produced a knife and demanded money from the assistant before placing the cash, alcohol and cigarettes into a plastic shopping bag and fleeing.
A Safeway spokeswoman said the staff member involved was offered counselling and was now back at work.
“Our stores are very vigilant with security and all have closed circuit television cameras as well as security guards on duty overnight,” she said. “Unfortunately something like this can still happen despite all the security measures that are in place.”
The man is described as being Caucasian, around 173cm tall, of slim build and wearing dark pants and a light brown windcheater. He was also wearing a dark grey beanie.
Crime Stoppers are keen to hear from any customers who were in the store at the time of the robbery and haven’t spoken to police. Call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
