Upgrades for village people

A RIBBON was cut on Friday to mark the opening of new facilities at Meadowvale Retirement Village.
Residents of the Pakenham centre joined state Gembrook MP Tammy Lobato and Federal McMillan MP Russell Broadbent and Cardinia Shire councillor Kate Lempriere at the celebration.
The new walkway and recreation room was opened by Ms Lobato.
About 80 people attended the ceremony.
Village manager May CroxfordRowswell welcomed guests, including Primelife general manager of operations Jenny Clancy.
Residents committee chairman Jack Munro said the new facilities were great for the village.
The undercover walkway, which includes a wheelchair lift, would save residents having to negotiate a hill to get from the dining room to their apartment, Mr Munro said.
“It was too steep for a lot of people. They would have to stop halfway and have a rest,” he said.
“The new walkway is much wider and better. Most residents are very happy about it.”
A recreation room is part of the upgrade with comfortable seating and other facilities.
Entertainment at the opening celebration was provided by popular local performer — and Meadowvale staff member — Alan Cherry.
Residents and guests also enjoyed afternoon tea.
