IT was Greg Butler’s day at Drouin Golf Club on Saturday.
It was the first round of the Winter Wade, an individual Par event played over two weeks and the event attracted a field of 101 players.
After a great round of plusfive Greg (24) not only leads the event, but won the Cgrade trophy for the day event.
Better scores in C grade were runnerup on a countback Peter Bethune plusthree and Jeff Monteath plusthree.
In B grade, Gordon Warren (17) had square to win from four players all on minusone. They were Lindsay Robinson who won the runnersup voucher on a countback from Charlie Hardy, Jim Bransgrove and Cleo Sahhar.
Mark Wootton (11) was best of the A graders with a fine plustwo.
Runnerup, again on a countback was Wayne Robbins plusone from Pat McDonald.
Fred Gajdobranski, Steve Cordell and Marty Dalziel all returned square.
Nearest to pins – second: Shane Dwyer, fifth (pro pin): Geoff Thomas, 14th: Chris Hunt, 17th: Alan Manley.
Downtheline balls went to minusone on a countback and the CCR was 73.
WEDNESDAY COMPETITION
This was a Stableford competition and 40 players entered the event and battled the big chill.
There were only enough players for one grade and Darryl Bryce was the winner with 38 points. Runner up was John Harris with 37, Cleo Sahhar had 35.
Nearest to pins 14th: Roger East, 23rd (pro pin): John Denholm.
Downtheline balls went to 32 on a countback and the CCR was the maximum 74.
SUNDAY COMPETITION
The Club hosted a Canadian guest mixed and a small field gathered.
Doug Clark and Sylvia Martin were the winners with 77 3/8 nett from runnersup Rick and Leanne Fenby 78.
MONDAY COMPETITION
There were 21 players for the ninehole event and Irene Morgan took on the men and won the day with 19 points and collected three golf balls.
Better scores were Peter Devries 18, Bruce Horskins 17 and George Nicholson 17.
Rain washed out play for the Thursday seniors.
O’BRIEN’S MONTHLY MEDAL
It was reported in the golf notes submitted for last week’s issue that Kevin O’Riley won the monthly medal when it should have been Kevin O’Brien.
It was Kevin’s first monthly medal win at Drouin.
LADIES
It was a wild and windy day last Tuesday, but it did not deter golfers from competing in a Stableford event on the Michael Scott course. The CCR was 34 points.
There were quite a few apologies at the finish as this was a ‘secretpartners’ event.
The winners were Tracie Wright and Lorraine Burke with a combined score of 70 points.
The runnersup were Leeanne Planck and Mildred Lyon with their combined score of 61 points.
Downtheline balls went to Edna Cropley and Kerryn Milner with 57 points on a countback to Margaret Purcell and Betty Delaney.
Nearest the pin on the 14th was Judy Bibby and on the 19th was Leeanne Planck.
Bev Goodwin won the propin.
This week is the annual general meeting starting at 9.30am with a ninehole competition to follow.
Next week will be foursomes championships, 27 holes, sponsored by Lights Fan’s Things.
