Pakenham pair star for shield

PAKENHAM Golf Club’s Scott Milnes and Andrew Villinger played top games to win the Australasian Foursomes Challenge Shield at Curlewis Golf Club, near Geelong, last Saturday week.
Representing West Gippsland District Golf Association, Scott and Andrew played two steady rounds of 77 and 75 to claim the shield by three shots from Portsea and Latrobe.
The prestigious annual event has been running since 1912 and is open to club and foursomes champions nominated by their clubs or districts and is run in conjunction with the Victorian Amateur Foursomes Championship.
West Gippsland won the event in 2004.

SATURDAY RESULTS

The event was Par and was played in wet and cold conditions.
The winner was Alex Wynne with +4 for the day. Bret Mottrom was the Agrade winner coming in square and the Bgrade winner was Mark Bell with +3.
Downtheline balls went to Travis Fossey +2, Hugh Westmorland +2, Phil Barling +2, Rob Morley +1, John Campbell +1, followed by Grant McKay, John Goodchild, John Hutcheon and Bob Yates all on square.
They were followed by Michael Davey, Marcus Cameron, Bob Collins, Mark Klaver, Fergus O’Gallagher –1. David Horne, Scott Phillips, Ken Whittaker, Don Callen, Ray Allen, Ray Hewitt, Nick Hock, Steve Chapman and Tony Colvin all came in with –2.
The B.M.R. Autos Agrade longest drive went to Neil Mani and Hugh Westmorland won the B grade.
The McIntyre Painting Cgrade longest drive was won by Travis Fossey.
Nearest the pins saw David Leach win the golf club second hole and David Horne was the winner of the Pakenham Subway vouchers for being closest on the fifth hole.
The Dante’s Woodfired Pizza eighth hole went to Matthew Russo and Peter Tripp won the Hungry Jack’s 14th hole.
The Pakenham Pizza 16th hole went to Dale Wynne and the B.M.R. Autos second shot on the sixth was won by Neil Mani.
Barrie Seldon and Dale Richards won the raffle.

This week is Stableford and the following week is Hoaries Revenge – a twoman Ambrose event.

MONDAY RESULTS

A small field of 22 played Stableford on 10 July with Denby Coggan coming in the winner with 30 points from Brian Doherty with 29 on a countback.
Down the lines went to David Hoare 29, Peter Marotta 27, Jim Logan 27 and Chris Peeters 27.
Nearest the pins were won by Jim Logan on the second hole and Les Jones on the eighth.

WEDNESDAY RESULTS

This was a small field as many members attended the funeral of esteemed member Graeme McQualter who died suddenly last Friday week.
Thirtyone players took part with Peter Eaton the winner with 38 Stableford points from Heath Barclay 36 on a countback.
Trevor Smith 36, Brian Doherty 35, John Moore 35 and David Robinson 35 were the downtheline winners.
Nearest the pins on the second and eighth holes went to Bob Edwards and Steve Chapman took out the 14th.

SUNDAY RESULTS

Mark Klaver was the winner with 36 points.

LADIES

Fortyfour enjoyed a fun day playing Ambrose threes last week.
The day’s winners were Jenny Bayard, Dawn Van Roy and Norma Robertson with 68 3/8.
The runnersup were the team of Libby De Hey, Lee Andrews and Shirley Roberts with 68 5/8.
Nearest the pin on the second hole went to Irene Walker. The eighth hole was won by Libby De Hey and the 14th hole went to Muriel Mills.
Downtheline balls saw Helen Aurish, Marg Andrews and Leanne Barker 73 1/8, Judy Horne, Muriel Mills and Joyce Garton, Marg Turner, Bev Morgan and Faye Barnes 73 4/8 and Liz Garvey, Maria Warburton and Adele Mahony 73 7/8.
Next week will be captains/presidents day and the round will be Stableford.
