Eagles soar to success

A POWERFUL sevengoal last quarter was enough for Beaconsfield to grab a 25point win at home in a tight game against Keysborough on Saturday.
Kicking to the southernend goals, Keysborough made the early running and took advantage of some unaccountable football by the Eagles who fought back late, but were still four goals in arrears at the first break.
Coach Haydn Robins insisted players man up and work themselves back into the game by half time.
From early in the term, Beaconsfield set the pace and grabbed the lead just before the siren with a sixgoaltoone quarter.
Chris Kelf was giving the onballers first use, while Luke McConnell and Clint Evans were proving a handful for their opponents.
After the long break Keysborough regrouped and took the game right up to the Eagles to leave Beaconsfield twopoint leaders at orange time.
Kris Fletcher was using his experience to provide the run the Eagles were looking for and Daniel Mislicki was controlling his side of the ground from halfback to halfforward.
The game was there for the taking as Keysborough made the first break and pushed out to a 14point lead after ten minutes.
The Eagles looked unsteady, but held their nerve, running hard against the tiring Burra.
Two towering marks in the goal square by David White, who had a great duel at centre halfforward all day with former Murray Bushranger Will Gayfer, resulted in two goals that gave the Eagles the impetus to finish off a determined Keysborough with a seven goal to three final term.
Scores: Beaconsfield 19.14.128 d Keysborough 15.13.103.
Goals Beaconsfield: Clint Evans 6, Luke McConnell 4, Daniel Mislicki 3, Haydn Robins 3, David White 2, Daniel Battaglin 1.

The memory of a hardfought onepoint win in the first round against Keysborough was in the minds of the Eagles as they took the field on Saturday.
The first term saw a bright start for the Eagles as they worked their way to a twogoal lead.
In the second quarter the game tightened up with neither side able to gain a break.
The Beaconsfield backline, led by Ryan Price, Brett Hogan and under18 player Nick Smith, held the Burra goalless, taking a 19point lead by the halftime siren.
After the break, the younger, fitter Eagles showed Keysborough a clean pair of heals, adding six goals to one and putting the result beyond doubt at the last change.
The Eagles relaxed early in the final quarter to allow their opponents a sniff of victory, but steadied to win by 45 points.
