PAKENHAM seniors produced topquality pressure football in the last quarter to down Berwick by 80 points on Saturday.
Kicking with the aid of the wind in the first quarter, the Lions jumped out of the blocks to lead at the first break by 36 points.
The second quarter saw a reversal with Berwick taking control of the game by kicking nine goals to four and bringing the margin back to just four points at the major break.
The wind was still a factor in the third and Pakenham made the most of it blowing the margin out to five goals heading in to threequarter time.
In the last quarter Pakenham ran all over the opposition keeping it goalless and kicking eight.
Nathan Lieshout played one of his best games in the Lions’ jumper, while Simon Ponter and Daniel Fry were dominant up forward kicking seven and five goals respectively.
Beau Wheeler and Troy Willis were both again impressive around the ground, while Michael Holland and Lincoln Withers were instrumental in setting up the Lions’ victory.
Pakenham will play Narre Warren at Fox Road this Saturday that is looming as the biggest game of the year so far.
RESERVES
Coming off a narrow defeat the week before, the Lions again took it right up to their highly fancied opponents Berwick to go down by five points.
Pakenham was five goals down at threequarter time, before deciding to start playing as a team and not as individuals, but left the run too late.
Scores Pakenham 8.12.60 lost to Berwick 9.11.65.
UNDER 18
Undermanned again due to school football commitments, Pakenham fought hard against a superior opposition in Berwick and went down by 23 goals.
It took the Lions until the last quarter to register their first goal but they never gave up and played the game out.
Chris McKinlay had a big day, being adjudged best on ground in the under18s and then filling in for the reserves.
Jon Higgins continued his recent good form as did Stefan Krull and Clint Thomas played a credible game along with Anthony Blight.
