Rotary club inducts its first woman

THE Rotary Club Kooweerup/ Lang Lang inducted its first female member in its 33year history at a recent changeover dinner held at Catani’s new recreation reserve.
Outgoing president Paul Waite inducted Judy Wright and fellow new member Darren Guiness.
The dinner was attended by District Governor 9820 Ray Stewart, Cardinia Shire mayor Garry Runge, assistant district governor Terry Williams, assistant district governor Bruce Thomas, chairman of Life Education Victoria Kevin Corbett as well as many visiting Rotarians and partners.
During the evening, Mr Stewart inducted Bob Comber as the 33rd president. In his acceptance speech, Mr Comber said he and his new committee had some projects already in train to complete but looked forward to tackling many new ones ahead.
The club presented two Paul Harris fellowships to Doug Hamilton and Ray Rickard. Both members were surprised to find that while being presented that their family members had entered the room and were there to witness the event.
A certificate for 100 per cent attendance over 30 years was accepted on behalf of Gordon Sampson, who was absent overseas attending the Rotary World Convention.
Life Education Victoria chairman Kevin Corbett presented certificates to Cranbourne/ Pakenham Life Education committee members Geoff Reeve and Abe Krach for their volunteer work over many years.
Peter Jubb and Max Kneebone were also presented with certificates for their efforts in raising funds for Life Education during four years of Rotary Ride to Conference.
President Comber thanked the 105 people who attended saying that the club was in a strong position membership wise and would only go from strength to strength with the induction of the first female member.
