Grape expectations bear fruit

A PAKENHAM Upper couple has seen the fruits of their wine making passion progress into an awardwinning chardonnay.
Michael and Jenny Pullar planted the first grapes at their Limbic vineyard nearly 10 years ago and were rewarded last Wednesday when they won first place at the Victorian Wine Regions Showcase Series.
Their 2003 Limbic chardonnay caught the judges’ senses and took out the prestigious prize as part of the Gippsland section. The awards were part of special Federation Square celebration of great wines from across the wine growing regions of Victoria.
Mrs Pullar said they were thrilled to win the award and hoped to expand their winemaking business during the next few years.
“We started by mainly selling our grapes to another winery but we are now making about 600 cases of wine a season,” Mrs Pullar said.
Producing an award winning wine doesn’t come easily and the Limbic operation is a true team effort between the Pullars.
Mr Pullar does the majority of the planting and caring for the grapes while Mrs Pullar handles the administration side of the operation.
Mrs Pullar explained the limbic name originated from her husband’s work as a neurosurgeon. “The limbic system in the brain connects the smell and taste senses to an emotion.”
Another local wine also wowed the judges at the show with Tynong North winery Cannibal Creek which was placed in the pinot section.
Anyone wanting to know why the judges were so impressed can purchase the top rated wine from the Limbic winery by calling 5942 7723.
