PEARCEDALE made a brave attempt to snatch fifth place from Somerville on Saturday, but fell short by 62 points, sealing the final five in Nepean League with one minor round to play.
The Panthers were behind the pace from the first term and despite top performances from youngsters Keegan Emmons, Matt Mackenzie and Luke Bozic, the Eagles were too slick, with Joel Kennedy booting seven goals to lead his team home.
Sorrento’s Scott Cameron also snared seven majors in his side’s 103point result over Red Hill, while the close game of the round saw Crib Point come from behind to down Tyabb by four points.
Other winners were Dromana by 96 points over Rosebud and Rye by 32 points over Frankston.
Reigning Peninsula League premiers Mt Eliza flexed its considerable muscle and gave third side Seaford a 70point reminder of what will be required if the pair meets in the finals.
The Tigers were no match for the Redlegs after quartertime with Tony Garbers dominating in attack with seven goals and ruckman Chris Edgar best afield.
Karingal downed EdithvaleAspendale by 10 points with former St Kilda big man Tim Elliott picking up the three votes, kicking seven goals.
Other winners in round 16 were Chelsea by 105 points over Pines, Frankston YCW by 75 points over Mornington and Hastings by 13 points over Bonbeach in the battle for the 2006 wooden spoon.
