Innovative learning

LEARNING for Life has been the Berwick Lodge Primary School’s motto since it opened in 1990 and it is as relevant today as then.
The programs reflect the changing learning needs of students and also the relationships between schools and the wider community.
For example, the whole school LOTE (Mandarin) program is designed to ensure that students have every opportunity to capitalise on the changing dynamic in this region.
Robotics, another current program has seen students from Berwick Lodge represent Australia internationally. The field of robotics is truly exciting and the future of humankind in many people’s opinions will be tied increasingly with robots as time passes.
On alternate years, senior students visit the partner school in Singapore, in recognition of the importance of providing students with a global education.
The school is finding better ways to engaging with its local community to deliver educationally on the promises made.
To this end, the school is partnering with local kindergartens in developing innovative bridging programs for pre-schoolers and supporting parents in developing their knowledge of early childhood learning.
Toddler-to-school programs are now well established at Berwick Lodge as are curriculum partnerships with secondary schools to ensure that students have the option of continuity of programs – robotics and LOTE (Mandarin) are two examples.
Most recently the school has developed a stunning community garden, one which provides access to the wider community and reinforces genuine commitment to being a proactive community-focused school in the City of Casey.
Berwick Lodge Primary School is situated at 139 -147 Mansfield Street, Berwick, phone 9707 1766.
