Beaconsfield outclassed

BEACONSFIELD’S thirddivision Superules side was simply outclassed by opponent Footscray.
The wind at Williamstown was blowing a gale, and Beaconsfield got off to a good start winning the toss and kicking with the aid of the breeze.
Footscray, however, worked the ball well into the wind and pushed forward, but Beaconsfield’s back line, led by Ross and assisted by Sherris, took saving marks or spoils, not allowing Footscray to have any easy shots on goal.
Beaconsfield managed to get the ball forward and Havers took possession in the pocket to get the team’s first on the board four minutes in.
A few minutes latter McKenna put his body in the contest and was rewarded with a free kick 35 metres out from goal and kicked truly for Beaconsfield’s second.
However the term belonged to Footscray, which posted four goals for the term.
In the second term Footscray turned on an impressive display, with 7.5 to Beaconsfield’s 0.1.
It was certainly not lack of any endeavour on Beaconsfield’s part with Lowe, Mitchell, Havers and McKenna going in hard in and under packs.
Vandenberghe and captain Gubbins both had spells in the ruck.
Beaconsfield made a few changes at the main break, releasing Ross from full back to full forward and playing Sherris at full back, but this was to no avail as Beaconsfield could not get the ball down to Ross.
Footscray was too big for Beaconsfield across most positions, brushing off tackles.
Havers, in his second game for Beaconsfield, showed plenty of speed around the ground and the team will be looking for him to return next season.
Late in the term Mitchell was free in the pocket and kicked Beaconsfield’s third goal of the match.
At threequarter time coach Vallentine just wanted Beaconsfield to play the game out as hard.
The players did this in the last term, giving their all and fighting it out to the end.
While the scoreboard showed a 100point margin it did not reflect the endeavour of the Beaconsfield players in that everyone contributed throughout the game.
Score: Footscray 19.16. 130 d Beaconsfield 3.7.25.
Best: Sherris, Ross, Lowe, Vandenberghe.
