Selective market contracts

There were approximately 1300 export and 1000 young cattle penned at VLE Pakenham, representing a decrease of 280 head from the sale of a fortnight ago.
The usual buying group was present and operating a little more selectively and a slightly easier market.
Quality was good overall with a larger proportion of heavy weight export cattle penned.
The limited selection of quality vealers on offer sold from firm to seven cents per kilogram dearer.
Yearling trade steers improved three cents per kilogram while the feeder portion gained two cents per kilogram.
Yearling heifers showing good finish eased three cents to four cents for most while a few pens of grain assisted calves sold at dearer prices.
A good quality selection of grown steers and bullocks sold to softer demand with the grown steers holding firm while the bullocks from firm to five cents per kilogram easier.
Heavy weight crossbred manufacturing steers slipped six cents per kilogram.
The vealers sold mostly from 206 cents to 262 cents per kilogram.
Yearling trade steers made between 220 cents and 246 cents per kilogram.
Heavy weight bullocks sold between 209 cents and 220 cents per kilogram.
Heavy weight grown heifers showing good finish made from 203 cents to 220 cents per kilogram.
Heavy weight crossbred manufacturing steers sold from 185 cents to 218 cents per kilogram.
