Sisters meet the challenge

IT WAS time again on Saturday for the annual DrouinBarrhead (Canada ) challenge, an event played etween the two towns as part of the Sister City activities that have existed for the past 18 years. The challenge shield is held at present by the Barrhead club and we await the Canadian results to decide this year’s winner. The winning club is determined by the average score of the best 20 scores of stableford points on the day. This year Drouin had 105 players on the “Michael Scott” course with a CCR of 73. Best score in the Agrade was Clint Hickford (8) with a score of 43 points, runnerup was Leon Cook with 37 followed by Brett Dessent, Tom Carroll, Graham Austin and Mark Wooton, all on 36 points. The Bgrade was taken out by Jack Gough (19) with 40 points followed by Ken Cooper, Brad Hamill and Don Thomson all on 34 points. Matt Seddon (22) won the Cgrade with 39 points followed by Bill Todd on 38.
The highlight of the day was the eagle 3 by Clint Hickford on the par 5 15th hole.
On Wednesday 82 players competed with a tough CCR of 74. The evergreen Peter DeVries (13) won the Agrade with 35 points with Rolf Lobert and Brett Dessent next with 34 points. The Bgrade was won by the Alan Wilson (18) with John Wolswinkel was runnerup on a countback from Brad Hamill, Charlie Hardy and Lindsay Robinson, all on 34 points. The C section went to Henk Otterspoon (27), with a fine 39 points from Jim McCormack and Merv Swingler, both on 37 points. Mick Whitford won the Pro Pin and John Wolswinkel was NTP on the 14th.
Welcome back to the club manager Danny Shine who is looking terrific after his break overseas.
