BOOKS took on a life of their own when Beaconhills Berwick campus students and teachers dressed as famous book characters and paraded carrying a copy of the book they were from.
The special parade was part of the Literacy Week Celebrations.
After the parade each class performed something centring on literacy — their own stories and plays, while others read their own nursery rhyme creations or their favourite book.
Head of the junior school Judy Barton said the aim of Book Week was to promote good literature, read as much as possible using a range of genre and help children to develop a love of books.
“The assembly was certainly one of our annual events that really makes books fun for the students as they become one of their favourite characters.”
Events held throughout the week included competitions, poetry writing, and visiting authors Roland Harvey and Graham Davey, Galosh the Gnome.
A ‘Share Family Reading Night’ was also one of the highlights of the week when nearly 90 families enjoyed story telling and reading between parents, children and their siblings.
