Drouin trio does it easy

SATURDAY saw 38 teams compete in the threeperson Ambrose event at Drouin Golf Club with scores low and conditions good.
Winners were Trevor Allan, Jake Allan and Steve Davey, gross 67, nett 58 1/3. Runnersup: Matt Long, Darren Bailey and Jock Morrison, 60 1/6 on countback from Vince Megnone, Louie Stinosa and Derrick Arnolda. Next: Jeff Richardson, Garry Richardson and Craig McLeod 61, Phil Dignan, Glen Dignan and Ken Cooper 61 1/6. The first two teams go on to play at Sandhurst on 25 October for a chance to qualify for the national final in Queensland.
Fortytwo players competed in the overflow Stableford event on Saturday, enough for just one grade. Tony Piner (13) put the misery of his “Losing Saints” behind him to win with 37 points. He won on a countback from Geoff Closter. Laurie Harris was next with 34. Balls went down to 33 on a countback.
Rain reduced Wednesday’s field to just 13 players. Leon Cook (3) was not put off his game and fired 71 off the stick to win comfortably with 40 points.
A field of 42 players competed in the senior ninehole comp on Thursday. Les Madden and Jack Gough tied in the men’s section with 19 points each. Pam Pratt won the ladies with 16 from Audrey Smethurst 15.
This Saturday is a Stableford round at Drouin. On Sunday Drouin will host the men’s 36hole West Gippsland Singles Championship.

Fiftytwo players competed in Tuesday’s event, the Canadian Foursomes, personal guest day, on the Matthew Bennett course. Guests came from Garfield, Warragul, Woorayl, Beacon Hills, Cranbourne, Trafalgar and Moe.
Agrade winners were Lorna Hoskins and Eve Coghill (Warragul) with 78.25 nett. Runnersup were Audrey Smethurst and Paula Rae (Beacon Hills) with 78.5 nett.
Bgrade winners were Leeanne Planck and Brenda McLean (Woorayl) with 79 nett and the runnersup Dagma Forbes and Bev Hopkinson (Warragul) with 84.5 nett.
Nearest the pin on the fifth was Glenda Warren and the guest nearest the pin was Pat Brook (Warragul). No Drouin member claimed on the 19th and the guest nearest the pin was Sandy Heenan (Warragul).
Down the line balls went to Glenda Warren and Judy Shearman (Warragul) 78 7/8 nett, Mary Clark and Judy Kennedy (Warragul) 80 1/8 nett and Jill Brenchley and Kay Thompson (Warragul) 81.25.
Shirley Todd won the individual Agrade at the Churchill/Monash Bowl held on Friday 1 September.
The Thursday ninehole seniors competition was again well attended and the winner was Pam Pratt with 16 points. The runnersup were Audrey Smethurst with 15, Val Johnson, Shirley Todd and Fay Bastin all on 13.
This week is stroke, the September monthly medal and the fourth round of the John Arnold Memorial Trophy. Next week is par.
