TWO excellent rounds of nett 68 for a total of 136 gave Glen Morris the Cox Cup at Garfield Golf Club on Saturday.
Glen won the prestigious event by three shots from Chris Davies on 139, followed by Craig Scott on 140.
The perpetual honourboard trophy is in remembrance of former member, captain and club secretary, the late Fred Cox, now continued by his wife and family.
In the day’s event, Craig Cousin (14) shot 77 off the stick for a fine nett 63 to easily win A grade.
A countback was needed in B grade to find the winner with Bill Granger (18) firing a nett 70 to edge out Jim Davie also nett 70.
In C grade, Chris Kondarios (28) returned a nett 65 to just pip Tom Howard who shot a nett 66.
Downtheline balls went to T. Howard 66, C. Davies 67, H. Huyskens and G. Morris 68, G. Kelly, C. Scott and D. Hughes 69 and J. Davie nett 70.
Those to just miss out were P. Scott and T. Franklin nett 71 and B. Hunter, R. Morris, I. Nicholson, I. McMillan and M. Cousin all on nett 72.
Nearest the pins went to J. Coutts (fourth), G. Vandenessen (eighth), J. Davie (ninth), T. Howard (11th), W. Granger (14th) and R. Neylan (16th).
Second shot on the fifth: T. Marsham and second shot on the seventh: J. Davie. The CCR was 69.
THURSDAY COMPETITION
The winner was John Hammond (20) 39 stableford points followed by Ces Manser 36, Ron Duncan 36, Peter Skinner 35 and Ray Jones on 34.
Nearest the pins were J. Hammond (fourth), T. Griffiths (ninth), G. Henderson (11th) and J. Reddish (16th).
SUNDAY COMPETITION
The B. and J. Hunter open mixed Canadian event was held last Sunday and attracted a good field.
The winners were Gary and Vicky Kelly, nett 69 1/2 followed by Geoff and Geraldine Sinclair 71 7/8, George and Gwen Vitiritti 72 1/4 and Harry and Debbie Huyskens 73 1/4.
Scratch went to Reno Borg and Kathy Garratt and the visitors trophy was won by Jim and Dot Kidd 75 1/8.
Downtheline balls went to P. Johnson/O. Pearson 74, S. and B. Clark 74 1/2, R. and S. Williams 75 1/4, D. Clark and S. Martin 76 3/8 and R. and P. Morris 76 3/8.
