BEACONSFIELD under18s took three quarters to shake off a determined Narre Warren in the second semifinal, before overpowering its rival to win a berth in the grand final by 28 points.
The Eagles were sluggish at the start of the game and took more than a quarter to settle, with the Magpies leading by 21 points at the first change, after kicking with the assistance of a swirling breeze.
Eagles coach Rik Crook gave his charges a good bake at the first change and they snapped out of their lethargy and started playing the solid, accountable football that took them to the minor premiership.
After drawing to within a goal at halftime Beaconsfield applied pressure and promising ruck prospect Daniel Calteri took control of the air to help his team to break free and win the game and premiership favouritism in convincing style.
Sunday’s first semifinal saw Doveton regroup after a poor performance the week before and take out a onesided contest against bitter rivals Cranbourne by 36 points.
The writing was on the board early for the young Eagles with Doveton dominating around the ground through James Pattinson, Daniel Ratcliffe and Dean Kelly.
The Doves led from start to finish but really put the pressure on after halftime, booting 10 goals to seven to cruise away.
Daniel Watson and Brad Sauer were Cranbourne’s better performers.
The match ended in controversy with a fight between rival players and supporters as the teams were leaving the field.
Police were called and MPNFL officials are waiting to see if any action will be taken before reviewing the incident.
