CASEY manager of community safety Brendan Fitzsimmons has warned people about responding to telephone callers asking for private information.
Mr Fitzsimmons said callers claiming to be from the council, government or business asking for personal details may not be as they sound.
He said the council had received complaints from residents who had received calls from people who said they represented the City of Casey.
“The callers request private information from residents such as birthdates, licence numbers or other details,” he said.
“It is highly unlikely that such calls are genuine.
“If residents are concerned over the authenticity of a caller purporting to be from council, they are advised to ask the caller their name, department and contact number, and then contact the City of Casey to check,” he said.
