TRAINS were halted on much of the Pakenham line last Tuesday after contractors cut signalling cables.
Contractors working near Dandenong station accidentally severed fibreoptic cable used for train signalling about 8am, forcing train services to be cancelled.
Connex spokesman Andrew Cassidy said trains on that line travelling from the city were terminated at Springvale before heading back into the city.
He said Connex had organised replacement bus services to carry passengers to and from affected stations on the Pakenham and Cranbourne lines.
Traffic had been chaotic in the area as trains travelled slowly between Dandenong and Cranbourne without signals.
