JACKY Abbott wants to be a fresh alternative to the pack of candidates vying for the seat of Bass at the state election.
Ms Abbott was announced last week as the Nationals’ candidate.
She joins a field that includes Liberal incumbent Ken Smith, Labor hopeful John Anderson and a likely host of independents in a battle that looms as one of the tightest in the election.
Longserving Gippsland MP Peter Hall said Ms Abbott was an enthusiastic advocate for the area who would bring a passion for improving the local planning framework to her role as candidate.
“With experience as a teacher, senior federal public servant, journalist, mother and advocate for improved education services, Jacky understands the concerns of local families and has the ability to get results for this community,” Mr Hall said.
“Jacky comes to this role with a wealth of knowledge about sustainable land management and appropriate planning policies, but perhaps more importantly, a driving commitment to improve her local area.”
Ms Abbott, who lives at Wonthaggi, said she was looking forward to the challenge.
“I am running for State Parliament because I believe local residents could benefit from greater government investment in our region and their fair share of funding for important services,” she said.
“I want to see improved dental services for families and a better deal for pupils and teachers at our schools and kindergartens.”
