Demand was stronger in the better quality pens at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange, Warragul on Wednesday last week with the best vealer making to 335.6 cents per kilo.
Although the secondary pens sold to easier demand, the market was still regarded as stronger, with one buyer commenting that this was the dearest market he has attended.
The demand split was evident in all categories and although the better prices remained steady among the better pens there was a larger percentage of secondary cattle yarded for the sale, and this resulted in averages easing across the board.
The yard average was 15 cents easier at 259.9 cents.
Thirty three bullocks reached 295 cents, back five cents, and averaged 253 cents, back 41 cents; 38 heifers reached 280 cents, back 11 cents, and averaged 234.2 cents, back 24 cents; 122 steers reached 315 cents, back 10 cents, and averaged 256.4 cents, back 32 cents and 300 veal reached 335.6 cents, up six cents, and averaged 267.9 cents, back four cents.
On Thursday the yarding was back 150 head to 423.
Twenty nine bulls saw easier demand reaching 277.2 cents, back eight cents, and averaged 237 cents, back six cents.
Sixteen bullocks topped at 280 cents, up 18 cents and averaged 249.8 cents, up 15 cents and the 378 cows yarded made to 260 cents, back 22 cents, and averaged six cents up at 203.9 cents.
The Thursday yard average was up seven cents to 208.7 cents.
