WGCA preview – round 2

By Ian Ferguson
THE battle for swamp supremacy between Kooweerup and Catani shapes up as being the game of the round.
Both teams recorded wins in the opening fixture, but the Demons batting appeared to be decidedly brittle last Saturday at Emerald. The Blues seem to have a more settled lineup and are tipped to narrowly take the points.
Both Devon Meadows and Tooradin will be desperate to join the winner’s list after suffering narrow defeats in the first match. There is little between the two teams, but the Panthers are tipped to pounce on a win as they have slightly more batting and bowling depth.
The Yabbies host dual reigning premiers Beaconsfield that is team building with young players after losing key premiership performers.
The expected return of Jason Dodd will bolster the Tigers who should end PUT’s onegame winning streak.
Agrade tips for round one, with likely winners in capitals are:
DEVON MEADOWS v Tooradin, Merinda Park v CARDINIA, Kooweerup v CATANI, Pakenham UpperToomuc v BEACONSFIELD, Pakenham v CLYDE, OFFICER v Emerald.
Bgrade bolters in KilcundaBass and Nyora both face tough tests in their next games after enjoying outright wins in round one.
Despite their early success the batting performances of each team was poor.
Nar Nar GoonMaryknoll has the batting depth to overcome Nyora at the Goon and Beaconsfield should be too strong in their own Tiger’s den for KilcundaBass.
