BERWICK Secondary College has continued its toplevel performance in human powered vehicle (HPV) racing with a brilliant effort at the 2006 Murray Bridge HPV event.
The college entered three teams and saw the community team consisting of former students do well.
Firetruck won second place in category three, and sixth overall, with 392 laps.
Firestorm was sixth in the class and 18th overall, with 381 laps. Firebird was 19th in category three and 53rd overall, with 304 laps.
The community team Aussie Made was placed fifth in category four and eighth overall, with 381 laps.
The race was close all the way and Firetruck fought for first place, missing by only by one lap after 24 hours of racing.
Team spokesperson Jackie Doughty said Firestorm was close behind.
She said the school was pleased to realise that it now had two very strong teams in this event.
“Firebird went very well also, with up and coming riders, and no mechanical problems.
“I would like to thank all our wonderful sponsors and helpers for their help, both in parts, labour and financially.
“Without so much help from a very broad field this opportunity for our kids would not be there.
“We owe you so much, and cannot thank you enough,” she said.
