BERWICK residents have claimed tenth place in the number of rebates supplied to a postcode area for watersaving rebates.
Gembrook MP Tammy Lobato said residents had taken to the scheme with enthusiasm.
She said figures showed 1463 rebates for watersaving products went to residents of Berwick between January 2003 and June 2006.
“This puts Berwick ahead of most postcodes in terms of the number of rebates supplied,” she said.
“These watersaving products in Berwick alone are saving 7682 kilolitres of water a year.
“This is a magnificent effort and our community should be proud of the progress it has made.”
The Minister for Water John Thwaites said the Bracks Government had provided 134,000 rebates to households across Victoria, saving over 1.1 billion litres of water a year.
“Water use in Melbourne is now 22 per cent a person below the 1990s, thanks to rebates and other conservation and recycling measures,” he said.
Ms Lobato said popular products that attracted rebates in Berwick included rainwater tanks, dualflush toilets and shower roses.
Products and services included in the rebate scheme are AAA shower roses, for a $10 rebate, $100 ‘basket’ of watersaving goods, such as drip irrigation systems, tap timers, trigger nozzles, soil moisture and rain sensors for the garden or home, $30.
Other rebates are dualflush toilet, $50, greywater system, $500, rainwater tanks, $150, water audit, $30 and tanktotoilet connection, $150.
