Family affair at Drouin

IT was a day for fathers and sons at Drouin Golf Club on Saturday in the final round of the Robins Family Trophy.
In a fitting result in the fourballbestball par event, both the winners and runnersup were fatherson combinations.
Errol and Paul Hopkinson backed up their +8 from last Saturday week with an excellent +11 to win the trophy with a total of +19.
Four shots back were Danny and Jimmy Burke on +15.
Erroll and Paul also won the day event with the next best score coming from Noel Brereton and Mike Waring +8.
Steve and Jack Henning (another fatherson combination) were next on +7 along with Danny and Jim Burke.
Balls down the line went to +6 on a countback.
There were loud cheers when George Shand holed out on the 14th, his first ever holeinone.
Another highlight was Paul Matthews’ eagle on the par four 13th.
Nearest the pins: 14th: George Shand, 17th: Shane Dwyer, 19th: Laurie Harris, 23rd (pro pin): Charlie Hardy.

WEDNESDAY RESULTS

The Stableford competition attracted a field of 73 players, enough for just two grades.
Agrade winner was Les Madden (18) with 40 points from Mike Barry 37.
Bgrade winner was Rick Fenby (26) also with 40 points. Runnerup was Benny Wyatt 38 on a countback from Mike Mareska and Con Norris.
Other good scores came from Wayne Duckett and George Connor both on 37.
Nearest the pins: 14th: Tom Carroll, 19th: Les Madden, 23rd (pro pin): Graham Austin. The CCR was 72 and balls went down to 36 on a countback.

MONDAY RESULTS

Benny Wyatt won last Monday the ninehole competition with 22 points from Mick Fox 21, Alan Fagan 20 and Peter Andreason 20.

THURSDAY RESULTS

Lester Smethurst won the senior ninehole event with 23 points from Rolf Loebert 19, Bruce Horskins 18 and Phil Edwards 18.

COMING EVENTS

This Saturday is the November Monthly Medal.
Members are also reminded of the traditional Lions Club Golf Day on Melbourne Cup Day next Tuesday.

LADIES

Last Tuesday’s warm spring weather encouraged 34 members to contest a Stableford event on the Michael Scott Course, sponsored by Drouin Amcal Pharmacy. The CCR was 38 points.
The Agrade winner with 38 points was Von Kenny and the runnerup with 36 points was Bev Goodwin.
Bgrade winner was Betsy White with 40 points and the runnerup was Ethel Manley with 39 points.
Nearest the pin on the 14th was Betsy White and on the 19th was Pam Pratt. No one claimed the propin that will again jackpot to next week.
Downtheline balls went to Nerida Hammond, Marion Devlin, Poss Leeson and Betty Johnson, all on 28 points.
The Thursday ninehole senior’s competition was won by Ethel Manley with 18 points. Runnersup were Joyce Pierrehumbert and Teresa Kreiv with 17 points each.

COMING EVENTS

This week is Stableford and the Grandmother’s Trophy, sponsored by Nola Gwynn.
Next week (Tuesday, 7 November) will be the Drouin Lions Club Melbourne Cup Golf Day, Stableford, with a rolling start from 8am.
The weekly game will be held on Thursday, 9 November in lieu of Cup Day and will be Stableford, sponsored by Drouin Guardian Chemist.
