The 2015 Parklea Pakenham and District Agricultural and Horticultural Show will hold its annual Hoof and Hook competition at the Victorian Livestock Exchange on Saturday 5 December.
The Hoof section will commence at 6pm with a dinner followed by the judging at 7pm.
There will be three classes – 250-325 kg, 330-385kg and 390-460kg live weight.
These classes are open to commercial and hobby farmers and generate interest throughout Gippsland.
The judge for this year’s competition is Geordie Elliott from Byaduk, an up and coming young man that comes highly recommended.
At the conclusion of the judging, ribbons and prize money presentation will take place.
The Hook section of the competition will be conducted at Radford’s Abattoirs on Tuesday 8 December at 9am.
MSA judge Paul Sheedy will allocate points for each carcase noting meat colour, fat depth and colour, meat acid pH and other market specifications.
Paul will be only too happy to answer questions on any carcase and explain why points were deducted for various reasons.
Trophies and prize money will be presented at the conclusion of the competition.
The society acknowledges and sincerely thanks its major sponsor Irwin Stockfeeds.
All inquiries to cattle superintendent Roger Leamon 5629 1070.
