Club serves up top tennis

A NUMBER of exciting games marked Pakenham Tennis Club’s annual senior championships.
Held on Sunday, 5 and Tuesday, 7 November the club championships were held together with a social roundrobin event and Cup Day sweeps on the Tuesday run by the club’s social committee.
The ladies singles event saw top seeds Dani McQuillen and Robyn English have convincing semifinal wins over Simone Dillon and Kira Desiatov on the Sunday.
McQuillen then continued her good form with a 63, 61 win in Tuesday’s final.
The men’s event saw club coach Paul Osborne defeat Michael Dillon in the semifinal while assistant coach Dave Desiatov defeated club president John Gallasch in the other semifinal on the Sunday.
Both will contest the final at the club’s Christmas party on 10 December.
The doubles was a highstandard competition with Kira Desiatov and Paul Osborne winning a tough semifinal against Robyn English and Dave Desiatov.
In the other semifinal Dani McQuillen and John Gallasch defeated Jed Scanlon and Shaun Akkermans on Sunday.
Tuesday’s final saw Desiatov and Osborne race away to win the first set 60, before McQuillan and Gallasch levelled the match at one set all by taking the second 63.
The final set was a great battle with Desiatov and Osborne winning a nailbiter 75.
The Cup Day roundrobin event winners were Andrew Eckersley, first and Kirsty Williams second in the junior event.
Jenny Desiatov, first, and Luke Desiatov and Matt Berry, equal second were victorious in the senior event.
Winners of the Melbourne Cup sweeps were Riley Osborne and Dani McQuillen.
The junior club championships and the men’s final will be held at the club’s Christmas breakup on Sunday 10 December.
Entries for the junior club championships should be emailed to club coach, Paul Osborne, by 8 December.
