Boost for netball skills

THE Latrobe Valley netballers with a disability team travelled to Bayswater on Saturday for a twohour skill session and a match against the Knox team.
Melbourne Kestrels player Bianca Franklin and leveltwo coach Lucille James took the 11 netballers for the session that included an intense warmup, fastfeet ladders and ball handling.
After the session the players’ skills were put into practice against Knox.
The pace of the game was fast and furious and newcomer Makayle Knights stepped up to the challenge, while Brooke Baker and Stephen Miller shot a goal each, thrilling spectators.
Jason Bird ran the centre for half a game and did a brilliant job and then swapped with Miranda Sillcock for a quarter and another newcomer, Tamarra Doll, filled in for the last quarter.
Louise Gleeson, Jayne Awty and Clare Dullard all played in the centre court and fed the goalers well. Jessica Michalsky defended strongly and the overall improvement from Paige Ross was outstanding.
The team has been training hard each Friday night and this experience was an opportunity to put it all together on the court.
Every player was rewarded with a certificate and a Melbourne Kestrels poster signed by Bianca Franklin.
The next opportunity for the team to play will be during the Ficifolia Festival in Drouin during February 2007.
