PAKENHAM relay runners are Victorian champions.
Six students from Pakenham Consolidated School competed with outstanding results in the recent State Athletics Championships.
Taylor Beck, Alex Keyer, Bec Cox, Sarah Bidgood, Cheyenne Tangahau and Toni Abrehart did the school proud at the titles, held in Bendigo.
Bec, Taylor, Sarah, Alex and Cheyenne combined to win the gold medal in the 11yearold girls’ relay, breaking a 25year record with their time of 57.32 seconds.
Coaches and school physical education teachers Claudia Cox and Greg Booth were thrilled with the girls’ results.
“They’ve been training three times a week over the past two months and all their efforts have paid off,” Ms Cox said.
Taylor also led the way with a terrific individual performance that will see her compete in the national titles, held next week in Cairns.
She will compete in the 100 metres and the relay.
Taylor won a silver medal in the 11yearold girls’ 100 metres, running the distance in a time of 13.4 seconds at Bendigo.
Toni also picked up a silver medal in the 10yearold girls’ triple jump with 8.88 metres, a personal best by 30 centimetres.
The school community is getting behind Taylor with a raffle to help raise funds for the trip. Students will also have a special dress day to help her on her way.
