Smaller yard maintains prices

THERE were approximately 700 export and 500 young cattle penned representing a decrease of 330 head week-on-week at the Victorian Livestock Exchange.
There was a full field of buyers present and operating in a solid market.
Quality was very mixed with a significant decrease in supply in the trade pens and many cattle throughout the sale lacking finish.
Heavy weight vealers suited to butcher orders sold firm.
Yearling trade steers held firm while the heifer portion lifted three to eight cents per kilogram.
Grown steers and bullocks improved three cents to five cents despite a greater proportion lacking finish. Heavy weight grown heifers gained 15 cents.
Friesian and crossbred manufacturing steers held firm.
Heavy weight vealers suited to butcher orders sold from 295 cents to 325 cents.
Yearling trade steers made between 291 cents and 325 cents.
Yearling heifers suited to the trade sold between 268 cents and 310 cents.
Medium weight feeder steers made from 288 cents to 306 cents for a limited selection.
Grown steers sold from 276 cents to 292 cents after a top of 298 cents.
Bullocks made between 280 cents and 292 cents.
Heavy weight grown heifers sold between 253 cents and 281 cents.
Heavy weight Friesian manufacturing steers made from 239 cents to 246 cents with the crossbred portion from 247 cents to 286 cents.
